Is It Safe to Send Jewellery by Post?
Updated for April 2026
Insured with Generali. Tamper-evident packaging. Video-recorded receipt. Free returns.

“What if my parcel gets lost?” It’s the first thing everyone thinks. And it’s a completely legitimate concern. You’re entrusting jewellery that has financial — and often sentimental — value to a shipping service.
Yes, it’s safe. But only when the process is designed to be. Good insurance alone isn’t enough. You need traceable packaging, real-time tracking, and a verifiable receipt protocol.
1. Insurance: the first thing, and non-negotiable
At OroSeguro, every shipment is insured with Generali — one of the largest insurers in Europe, with more than 190 years of history.
- Every shipment → Up to €50,000 cover as standard
- High-value pieces → Extendable to €100,000 on request
- Door to door → Insured from your home to our premises
From the moment your parcel leaves your home until it reaches our premises, it’s protected. Loss, theft, damage in transit — the insurer responds.
2. Tamper-evident packaging
The pack we send you includes a tamper-evident security bag with an individual serial number. If someone tries to open it, the word “VOID” or “OPENED” appears permanently printed on the material. It can’t be undone. It can’t be faked.
The process is simple: you put your jewellery in the bag, seal it, and write the serial number on the shipping form. That number is logged and linked to your personal file. If the number doesn’t match on arrival, we know something happened before we open anything.
3. Door-to-door tracking
The shipment goes through Correos with full tracking. You can choose home collection or drop it off at a post office yourself. Every movement is logged: pickup, transit, delivery.
We send you email updates at every stage: when your pack sets off to you, when your parcel is on its way back, and when we receive it. You always know exactly where your jewellery is.
4. Receipt under video surveillance
Every piece is weighed on a calibrated scale and analysed with an XRF spectrometer to determine the exact purity of the metal. Everything is documented and linked to your file.
5. What if the offer doesn’t convince you?
Absolutely nothing happens. We return your jewellery at no cost, insured with Generali exactly as the outbound shipment was. There’s no obligation to sell. Many customers send us their pieces simply to find out the real value of what they have — and that’s perfectly fine.
The 5 questions to ask before sending your jewellery
- Do they have shipping insurance? With which insurer?
- Do they use tamper-evident packaging?
- Do they give you real-time tracking?
- Do they open parcels under video surveillance?
- Do they return your pieces for free if you don’t accept?
If the answer to any of these questions is “no” — or if they simply won’t give you the information — look somewhere else.
