Gold value and collector value: the difference
We value every coin by its gold content at the official price of the day — that's what we pay. Some coins also carry a numismatic, or collector, value above their gold, which depends on rarity, condition and demand and moves in a separate market. If we think you have a rare or sought-after piece, we'll say so: it may be worth exploring that route before selling it for metal alone.
How we identify and authenticate your coins
You don't need to know what you have. We identify and authenticate each coin individually, and confirm its metal and purity with XRF analysis. We recognise Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, Sovereigns, Vrenelis, gold pesetas and many other Spanish and international issues.
Does it matter if the coin is worn?
Wear barely affects the gold a coin contains, so it doesn't meaningfully reduce its metal value. One tip: don't clean or polish coins before sending them. If a coin happens to have collector value, cleaning it can harm that — and for the gold, it's not needed.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you value gold coins?
- By their gold content (weight and purity) at the official price of the day, verified with XRF analysis. We accept Krugerrand, Sovereign, Vreneli and many others.
- Do you pay more for a collectible coin?
- Our valuation is based on the coin's gold content at the official price of the day. We don't separately assess any numismatic or collector value.
- Does it matter if the coin is worn?
- Wear barely affects the gold content, so it doesn't significantly reduce its value.
