What is 24 karat gold?
24k gold is pure gold: 999 parts per thousand (or 999.9 in investment bars). It is too soft for everyday jewellery, so in Spain it is found mainly in bars, investment coins such as the Krugerrand or the Vienna Philharmonic, and in traditional jewellery from other markets (Middle East, India, China).
The quote you see in the news, the LBMA price in dollars per ounce, is for 24k gold. Every other karat is calculated as a fraction of this price according to its purity.

- Yes. Bars from any refiner and size, and investment coins. They are valued by their gold content at the day’s quote, verified with XRF analysis, and paid by bank transfer within 24 hours of accepting the offer.
- Why do the ounce price and the gram price not match?
- Because a troy ounce weighs 31.1035 grams, not 28.35 like an ordinary ounce. The price per gram is the troy-ounce price divided by 31.1035.
