What is 9 karat gold?

9k gold contains 375 parts per thousand of pure gold (37.5%) and carries the "375" hallmark. It is the standard for jewellery in the United Kingdom and Ireland and turns up often in pieces belonging to British residents in Spain. Under Spanish precious-metal regulations it is not a recognised fineness for gold, so jewellery made here does not use it.

It is still gold and it is still bought: every gram contains 0.375 grams of fine gold and is paid in proportion. Many unhallmarked 9k pieces are mistaken for costume jewellery when they actually have value.

What 9k, 14k, 18k and 24k actually mean

9k gold price when selling: what are you paid?

The reference price above is the market spot quote for 9k gold: what the metal is worth on the market, not an offer. When you sell a piece, what you are paid comes from three facts: the exact weight in grams, the real purity (which does not always match the hallmark) and the quote on the day it is valued.

At OroSeguro we weigh each piece on a calibrated scale, measure purity with a laboratory XRF spectrometer, apply the official quote of the day and send you a written offer with a piece-by-piece breakdown. No hidden margins or fees: if you decline, we return your items free and insured.

Frequently asked questions about the 9k gold price

How much is a gram of 9 karat gold worth today?
The 9k price per gram on this page is 37.5% of the pure-gold spot quote converted to euros per gram at the ECB reference exchange rate.
Do you buy 9 karat gold?
Yes. OroSeguro buys gold of any fineness, including 9k. It is paid for its real gold content, measured with XRF analysis, at the day’s quote.
Why is 9k gold worth so little compared with 18k?
Because it contains half the gold: 375 parts per thousand versus 750. For the same weight, a 9k piece has half the fine gold of an 18k piece.
How do I know an unhallmarked piece is 9k?
By eye it is hard: 9k is paler and tarnishes slightly over time, but only XRF analysis confirms the purity. That is why we measure every piece before making an offer.
