What is 18 karat gold?

18k gold contains 750 parts per thousand of pure gold (75%) and 250 of other metals, usually copper and silver, which add hardness and colour. It carries the "750" hallmark and in Spain is known as "oro de primera ley": the vast majority of rings, chains, bracelets and wedding bands made here are 18k.

That makes the 18k price the most useful reference for anyone selling jewellery in Spain: almost everything in a household jewellery box is this fineness. 18k white and rose gold are worth exactly the same per gram as yellow, because what is paid is the fine-gold content, not the colour.

How much are X grams of 18k gold worth today?

Value of the fine-gold content at today’s quote. This is the metal value, not an offer: to know what you would be paid for a specific item it has to be weighed and its real purity measured.

What 9k, 14k, 18k and 24k actually mean

18k gold price when selling: what are you paid?

The reference price above is the market spot quote for 18k gold: what the metal is worth on the market, not an offer. When you sell a piece, what you are paid comes from three facts: the exact weight in grams, the real purity (which does not always match the hallmark) and the quote on the day it is valued.

At OroSeguro we weigh each piece on a calibrated scale, measure purity with a laboratory XRF spectrometer, apply the official quote of the day and send you a written offer with a piece-by-piece breakdown. No hidden margins or fees: if you decline, we return your items free and insured.

Frequently asked questions about the 18k gold price

How much is a gram of 18 karat gold worth today?
The 18k price per gram shown on this page is 75% of the pure-gold spot quote converted to euros per gram at the ECB reference exchange rate. It is refreshed every 5 minutes from the market spot quote; the change is measured against the last LBMA fix before today’s session (Friday’s, if today is Monday).
Why is my 18k jewellery paid less than the gold price?
Because the gold price in the news is for pure (24k) gold. An 18k piece contains 75% gold, so its metal value is 75% of that quote multiplied by its weight. Each buyer then applies its own margin; at OroSeguro the offer is calculated on the day’s quote with no hidden margins and you receive it in writing.
How do I know my piece is really 18k?
The "750" hallmark indicates 18k, but the mark can be missing, worn or not match the real alloy. That is why we measure the purity of every piece with laboratory XRF analysis before making an offer.
Is 18k white or rose gold worth the same?
Yes. The colour comes from the alloy metals (palladium, nickel or copper), but the fine-gold content is the same: 750 parts per thousand. It is paid at the same price per gram.
Does the 18k gold price change every day?
Yes. Gold trades on international markets and its price moves daily with the dollar, interest rates and safe-haven demand. When you receive an OroSeguro offer it is locked for 24 hours at that moment’s price.
